Gypsy & Pig
Gypsy & Pig is a modern Japanese restaurant located on Little Lonsdale Street. It is a specialty restaurant on serving the Japanese Kurabota (high quality Berkshire pork) dishes. If you love pork, you will truly enjoy the "wagyu"equivalent of pork feast here. Gypsy & Pig is a tiny restaurant with an approximately 20 seats capacity. Majority of the seating is the bar area around the open kitchen where you can see how Chef Kenji Higuchi and his team cook the dishes. The menu is not purely the traditional Japanese style but incorporated with the French and Italian elements.
Gypsy & Pig is a restaurant I go regularly for dinner and here are some of the dishes from my last visit.
Tuna tataki with special soy dressing and shaved parmigiano reggiano
Fresh tuna with soy, ginger dressing and topped with fresh shaved Parmesan... beautiful flavours.
Inside out tonkatsu sushi
Crumbed pork and asparagus wrapped by nori then sushi rice & toasted sesame... hot crumbed pork sushi is divine!
Pork belly and thinly sliced cucumber topped with spicy soy dressing
The pork belly is so succulent... melt in your mouth. Love it wrapped with the cucumber to create the contrasting texture. The chilli soy added a extra kick and just perfect seasoning to accomplish the pork.
Tonkatsu served with special sauce of mixed soy, mirin, Worcestershire and tomato
Signature dish... crispy batter... tender juicy pork fillet simply irresistible! A very moreish dish...

Apart from Japanese sake and beers, there are some good quality Victorian wines on the wine list. Check out the cute piggy logo on the wine glasses.

Gypsy & Pig is a lovely cozy and friendly restaurant serves a high quality of modern Japanese food. It is such a unique place specialising in cooking Kurobuta dishes. The house-made secret soy-based sauces for different dishes also make this place special. Hope you will enjoy the pork feast too!
