Hako
Hako is a Japanese restaurant located at Flinders Lane. Inside an ex-warehouse with high ceiling, dark wooden floor and old window frames is the home of a cozy restaurant which serves some high quality traditional Japanese food and notable Sake.
The menu has a strong emphasis on seafood of many kinds from tuna, salmon, kingfish, eel, calamari, octopus, cuttlefish, scallop, prawn, crab to oyster. They are being served in maki rolls, nigiri sushi, sashimi or as skewers, tempura and grilled plate. Apart from the seafood, there is also a variety of meat dishes of kurobuta pork and chicken as well as vegetable dishes. Here are some of the dishes we enjoyed.

Tempura cuttlefish with squid ink & green tea sea salt
Tender cuttlefish enclosed in the light crispy tempura batter. The squid ink sauce added an exquisite flavour to the dish.

Grilled eggplant with sweet miso
A classic sweet miso sauce goes so well with the grilled eggplant.

Chawanmushi - steamed egg custard with chicken, eel, prawn, shitake & okra
The steam egg custard is smooth and silky tofu-like texture with the subtle flavours from the seafood, chicken and okra.

Wagyu beef & octopus skewers
The skewers were charcoal-grilled to perfect texture and topped with delicious bbq sauce.

Torikatsu - crumbed chicken fillet with lemon dashi curd & daikon shiro puree
Crispy panko crumbs with succulent chicken breast served with the special tonkatsu sauce and lemon dashi curd. Very moreish!
My favourite dish - Chawanmushi
Food at Hako is being meticulously prepared of using high quality ingredients and beautifully presented on elegant ceramics. It is a place fits for romantic dinner as well as catching up with family and friends. In my next visit, I will definitely try out more on the fresh sashimi and kurobuta pork dishes. Hope you will enjoy the Japanese feast here too!
