The Town Mouse
The Town Mouse is a modern Australian restaurant located on Drummond Street, Carlton. Just a street away from Lygon Street inside a classic Carlton's townhouse is the Mouse's home.
The front room is small but filled with charms... the focal point is the bar with that vintage look surrounded by bar stools. The black tiled wall, wooden tables and bar stools and those vintage lampshades just added the Art Deco feel to the room. The room is warm and welcoming but not formal. The staff is extremely friendly and gave good recommendation on food and wine. The food menu is not big but has some very interesting dishes of seafood, meat and vegetable. Here are some of the dishes we enjoyed.
Duck liver parfait, pickled cucumber & crisp potato
Aren't they cute? Smooth parfait with nice contrasting texture of fresh cucumber and crispy potato.
Salt baked pork scotch, wheat, fennel & roasted barley miso
Tender pork with interesting combination of wheat, fennel and Japanese style miso... delicious.
Lamb rump, green olive, artichoke & grilled rapa
Nice pink lamb cooked in the Italian style with green olive, artichoke and rapa.
Whole baby snapper, crab & rouille
Roast baby snapper... the fish is moist with delicate flavour by itself. The crab and rouille added a nice complement to the fish.
Pickled pear, creme fraiche, chocolate & lemon
Such a beautiful and intricate dessert in layers... burst with different flavours in the mouth.
The Town Mouse has some seriously good wines. The Framingham 2005 Riesling we drank is very enjoyable... lovely old Riesling with the buttered toast, citrus and honey flavours. Love the cute mouse on the wine glasses too.

The Town Mouse is a lovely place for romantic dinner as well as catching up with family and friends. Friendly staff, warm atmosphere, creative food and good wine / cocktails... it is a place that you can sit back and have a good time. Hope you will have the same enjoyment like me!
